Wednesday Apr 13, 2022
Brittany De Marco & Haylee Karmer join us in the flats.
Two of the biggest names in the Canberra club scene join us in the flat to talk about the state of dance music and DJ culture in the capital.
Brittany was the longest standing resident DJ at Mr Wolf through its prime and now can be seen every weekend as the headline resident at Fiction Nightclub. She has some big sets coming up this month on the line up for Digi Culture Festival and Groovin The Moo.
Haylee has in a very small amount of time cemented herself as a city favourite at Fiction Nightclub. After taking part in an aspiring DJ program at Mr Wolf in 2019 she has taken over the scene with mentor Brittany De Marco.
We’ll dive into the challenges of finding your sound and place as a DJ, upcoming shows and what’s next for the pair. You can catch them both at the Flava D show tomorrow night at Fiction.

BOHIE & Smalls on the Mustard Flats Podcast EP30
We discuss the RIP Toxic Masculinity piece that was removed from Surface Festival last week and the Ash Barty mural that served up a social media storm.
After travelling Europe and North America while developing her skills as a traditional sign writer, Bohie brought her arts practice home to Braidwood to live and work off the grid in 2018. With origins in snowboard and skate culture and influenced by the natural world her art hits with impact and colour whatever surface it falls. Also running Red Hat Design Co with friend of the show Faith Kerehona they aim to challenge archaic social constructs through their work.
Having failed art class in high school James Smalls has come a long way painting around the country and working with brands like Nike, Under Armour, Rebel Sport. He is a master of the aerosol, heavily influenced by hip hop, sport, graffiti and tattooing. Great to have Smalls back in his hometown where his artistic journey began on walls at home with crayon and on the school desks with sharpies.
Both artists are inspiring the next generation of creators through workshops and youth programs and their work aims to inform and better the community. This episode does exactly that with a vulnerable and open convo that left us inspired. Enjoy.

Jedbrii & MN Cappo on the Mustard Flats Podcast EP 29
Both with new music on the way and both returning to the stage in coming weeks plenty to talk about with Canberra rap royalty Jedbrii and Cappo. Keen to discuss the different direction their music has taken recently and dive into the heartbreak, self-doubt, and politics that peppers their music.
Jedbrii has an explosive stage energy and is not afraid to talk about important issues. Dropping the follow up to 2015’s The Mindstate's Mixtape mid this year, his next album is sure to have an all new sound if first single ‘You’ is any indication.
Cappo has split his time as a rapper and producer making beats under Newborn Noise. He’s becoming a master of his craft over his signature raw old school boom-bap sound. As well as being a student of rap he is promoting and running upcoming hip hop show Mic Check this weekend.

EP28 Swaze & David Chavez
Thursday Jan 20, 2022
Thursday Jan 20, 2022
Hailing from South West Sydney, Swaze has left his mark all over the world while travelling as a professional graffiti artist. He has painted on some of the world's most dangerous walls from the Brazilian favelas to Mexican gang neighbourhoods. Weather it’s bombing illigal walls or commision pieces Swaze has plenty of stories from the road.
David Chavez is a world class tattoo and graffiti artist who has worked with the worlds best including Estevan Oriol, Mr Cartoon, Peque and Swaze. After a long break during lockdown he is back on the gun at Tattoo Xtreme. You will know his work from the Jackie Chan mural in Dickson and you can catch the Mustard Flats feature on David Chavez & Peque’s Aztec Mayan wall here https://youtu.be/H90dS2NPI2o.

Ashley Feraude & Jared Calnan on the Mustard Flats Podcast EP26
Two of Academy's most loved resident DJ’s, @feraude & Jared Calnan join us in the flats.
Both spent the early part of their careers in Academy and credit it as a huge influence on where they are now. Going on to develop some of Canberra’s most iconic nightspots and shape the city's sound.
The gentleman of disco Ashley Feraude is part music producer, feature writer @hercanberra, @fashfestcanberra music director and podcast host. We’ll be going behind the bio to get all the stories closer to home.
From nightclubs to festivals to restaurants Jared Calnan is the owner of Canberra’s @wholazysu and @whobabysu. Changing what a dining experience could be with his background in large events like Foreshore and nightclub Mr Wolf. Occasionally he still dusts off the CDJ for a Jared de Veer guest set.
This is not the first time these two have sat down for a podcast together so should be a vibe.
